What are we doing on Wednesday?

Since my return to work in January, we've been trying to do 'something' each Wednesday after school . It breaks up the week and gives me something to aim for .... something nice half way through the week, and then there's only two days till the weekend. Over the last three months, I've found the whole process difficult to say the least, and I have lots of ups and downs. It's nothing to do with the job itself, it's just the way I feel about the my work/ life balance.... moan, moan!
Anyway, over the past few weeks we've had fish and chips in Parkgate, huddled in the little cafe out of the storm, we've eaten out in a local hostelry, we've nipped in to the Museum on our way home and looked at the Egyptians and had a coffee. We've parked up in Liverpool One and done a bit of window shopping! Nothing special ... nothing outrageously exciting ... but we have been enjoying a bit of special time together ... it's like a date night!

So now, at the beginning of every week we say "What are we doing on Wednesday?" and we take turns in choosing something to do.

Now the nights stay lighter we can make the most of the evenings and get outdoors.
Tonight we went hunting for a place that I've only seen in photographs, even though it's only ten minutes from home.... Caldy Beach.
We live on the shores of the River Dee where it meets the sea. The faint hills in the distance are in North Wales. At the bottom of our road the river has silted up and there are marshy channels, but further along the coast there is a real beach. We usually walk along the shore at Thurstaston and at West Kirby, but in nearly thirty years we've never been to this bit.
Tonight it was just perfect ...

  4. How romantic and what a great idea to break up the week.Having been through what you and your OH have been through you look at life differently and enjoy every day.I'm going to suggest it here because although we are both retired the weeks race by so quickly and perhaps we should be saying"let's do something special every Wednesday",usually a free day for us.Watch this space.

  9. A terrific idea, and as you say, something to look forward to midweek. I think unless you plan something like this, the weeks just slip one into the other. What a gorgeous place to go to after all these years, and to be witness to the close of day in the form of a golden sunset :) Thanks for sharing your special date. Where are we going next Wednesday? ;)

  12. That's a great idea - I wish we could do that, but we live 50 miles apart :( I only see Dave at weekends and school holidays - it's been like that for 5 years and it can get quite depressing!

His mum lives on the Wirral so I have walked Thurstaston and been to West Kirby and walked across to Hilbre Island. I haven't been there for about 4 years though! Your photographs are lovely, what a beautiful sunset.

  13. Wow! What a fabulous way to spend a Wednesday evening. I think your idea is great! I have PPA on Wednesday afternoon AND am able to leave school reasonably early (about 4pm), and just knowing that helps me get through the week. Little things ;-). Have a lovely Easter weekend. Ros

  17. We so wish we lived close to the sea - we sometimes talk of moving! That beach is just beautiful and looks so peaceful. Thanks so much for your message about Archie - I wake every morning with such a sense of loss and can't believe he's gone but life goes on and we decided to get two rescue cats which I'll post about some day when I have time. I love your Wednesday idea, wonder whether we can manage something similar, it would be good to do things together before my eldest gets even more dis-inclined to come out with us! xx
