Happy Easter!

We're having a special family day here on the P.P.

It's not just Easter for us,  as we have a birthday to celebrate and some sad memories to deal with too.

I've spent a lot of time baking cakes.

I seem to be working my way through Mary Berry's cake collections.

I'm particularly thrilled with my Simnel Cake. I've never made one before, so I hope it tastes as good as it looks!
Hope you're all having a lovely Easter time wherever you are, and whatever you're doing.

Erddig on Easter Saturday

This is my second attempt at this post .... I had it almost ready to go last night, but it was late, so I thought I'd finish it today. Wouldn't you know it, one random click and I lost the lot! So this post is going to be much quicker than the first one!

On Saturday afternoon we went to Erddig near Wrexham. This lovely old house dates from the 17th Century...
and gives you the full 'Upstairs, Downstairs' experience, as there is so much to see above and below stairs.
There is a wonderful collection of photographs of the staff who worked here at the end of the 19th Century ... and lots of written information too.
The whole place is like a time capsule ... every item so faithfully preserved. It has never had electricity either, even though it was occupied until the 1970's.
Our favourite room upstairs was the nursery.... my lovely girl complaining yet again, that she had a deprived childhood because she never had a real doll's house!!!!

(Photographs aren't allowed indoors, so the last three are pinched from Google!)
The courtyard was full of bicycles and motor cars...
... and carriages.

The gardens and grounds are lovely, and extensive ... so I'm just going to show you what caught our eye as we wandered around in the Spring sunshine ...

.... and of course no country garden in springtime would be complete without bluebells ....
Erddig, a National Trust property near Wrexham, North Wales .... well worth a visit!

A Happy Easter Birthday!

It wasn't just Easter Sunday in our house this year, but my mum's 77th birthday too!
So we celebrated by having a proper afternoon tea .... I got all my pretty china out, and made some cupcakes.... and my dad drove across to our house. (Truth be told, we're a little nervous about him driving far these days.)

We had a lovely family afternoon ... it's not often we get a chance for all of us to get together!

Happy Birthday Mum!

Easter Greetings

I'd like to wish you all a very, very

I'm off out this afternoon .... somewhere nice I hope!

Meanwhile I'll leave you with some photos from our Easter parade in school this week ....
the children had been set a challenge for their Spring Break homework ....

We had all the beautiful bonnets as usual
but new for this year was the Easter Garden display.
The children were invited to make a garden with an Easter theme .....

As always, we were stunned and thrilled by the response.... as parents and grandparents staggered in carrying amazing creations! I wish my garden looked as good as some of these.

We have some very talented, artistic parents out there!
