Rue Cler

We had a quick trip to Paris this weekend.
As usual, we stayed in our favourite little hotel ... nothing spectacular ... but in a great location on Rue Cler in the 7th arondissement
This is a lovely cobbled street which is filled with the most amazing food shops.
When we come in spring or summer, we always buy the ingredients for a tasty picnic in these shops.... but not this time, as it was too cold and wet to sit in a park for lunch.
I love looking at the seasonal produce so artistically arranged ... this time there was an abundance of mushrooms on every stall ...
.... with varieties we only read about. Not a white button mushroom in sight.

This deli is unbelievable, with vast hams hanging from the ceiling ... and jars of delicious goodies.
It's not just a feast for the eyes, as the aromas waft out of the shops ... the cheese store being particularly strong... again every cheese you can imagine will be here.
Cold meats and saussicons at the charcuterie

Of course, in Paris, you're never far from a patisserie. Some of the cakes we saw this time cost 60 euros!!!
We always start the day in a pavement cafe eating breakfast ...... a great way for a spot of people watching, as the Parisiens go shopping.
But best of all Rue Cler is just a few minutes walk from a great little bar with this view ...
It serves food until after midnight ...  we enjoyed a carafe of red wine to accompany freshly made crepes
and a stroll through the park later to work off some calories....
Simple pleasures!
