I know, I know! I can't really believe it myself! Why on earth would you want to ....
Well, here's the background story .... we have never really been a 'political' family, but lately we have become much more informed ...because ....
Our lovely girl has a big grown up job as a regional organiser for the Labour Party .... after her degree in Politics at Durham University she was headhunted by Labour North in Newcastle. Over the past two years she has worked incredibly hard and had the most amazing time, meeting most of the top politicians.

Tony Blair presenting her with a birthday cake this year

(with Alastair Campbell)
... she's taken part in numerous by-elections and organised the successful campaign for the Durham seat at the general election itself last May .... she's been to Parliament and inside Number 10.

We've watched with tremendous pride as she has grown into a self-assured, confident young woman .... light years away from the young girl who phoned me in her first week in the job wailing 'Mum, Gordon Brown is coming to our office and I've got to buy his lunch ... what sort of sandwiches do you think the Prime Minister eats'. Nothing fazes her now!
No matter what your political persuasion, no-one could deny that it's a pretty exciting job for a twenty-three year old.
The highlight of her year, and probably her busiest time, is the Party Conference each September.
This year she invited me along for the last day to see what it's really like ... and I thought ... why not?
By Thursday all the drama over the leadership contest was finally over

the wrong brother had 'won'

Thursday was apparently a bit quiet, but I loved having a little peep into my daughter's world just for one day
It was all very rousing and full of people who are passionate about their ideologies ...
and I even got to shake the new leaders hand!
(No that's not me, I'm next in line!)
It was a very 'different' sort of day out!

How interesting!! She has a really great job. Yes indeed the wrong brother won - such a snake in the grass for going up against his brother in the first place! The labour party don'y help themselves (in my view) these days. I'm not very political at all, but I think Ann Widecombe was the greatest Prime minister we never had - sensible and all for good morals, and a bit off with the fairies! Good Luck to your lovely girl in the future and GREAT that she wanted to share the day with you. xxx
ReplyDeleteI bet you are so proud of her! I don't suppose that you witnessed David's snipe to Harriet Harman for clapping his brother!!! I am intrigued about Gordon Brown's sandwiches. Do you think he was an BLT kind of guy!!! x
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a lovely day out! I'm not particularly political, but we have followed the leadership battle and watched the proceedings at the conference. Maybe I spotted you and didn't know it! Isn't lovely watching your 'little ones' magically turning into confident, 'going somewhere' young adults. Brilliant! Hope you're having a good weekend. Ros
ReplyDeletejust caught up with all your posts kathy...you've been to some fab places and i love the Gormley statues.we saw the angel last year and loved that a lot!..what a fascinating day out, you must be so proud.....
ReplyDeleteKathy you must be so very proud of your beautiful daughter what an exciting life she has in front of her, its nice to see a graduate with a ' proper ' job so many are struggling to find anything at all.
ReplyDeleteWow.What a day.Lucky you.You must be so proud of your daughter.

How proud you must be of your beautiful daughter. Brains and beauty !! With three children in college, I am always happy to hear about other parents success stories.
ReplyDeleteAgree totally that the wrong brother won. But that aside, what a fabulous day out and what a fabulous career your daughter has. What proud parents you must be.

What an interesting day out you had - must have been fascinating and you must be so proud of your daughter and her achievements. I thought the younger brother might just sneak into the leadership although I did hope the older one would win. Such a shame as the party have now lost an experienced cabinet member!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a fantastic job - she seems so young to have such responsibility, how great to be able to share her world for a little while. We just went to my eldest's post-16 evening at school this week and he's just at the start of thinking what he might like to do! xx
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so pretty! You are obviously so proud of her, as you should be. Now pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Having a beautiful, successful daughter reflects how her mother raised her.
ReplyDeletewow, thats what i call a proper job, not like mine! i have never got round to deciding what i want to do when i leave school, although i have a job i still concider myself at school! i went to uni, stayed on, got a job there so never had to venture into the reall world! you must be very proud.x
ReplyDeleteYou must be so very proud?
ReplyDeleteI hope one day my daughters (and son) will discover their full potential.
take care,
