The London Trip

We took the caravan down to London and stayed at The Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site which is not far from Greenwich. The rail link into London was a short walk away and we could get into the city centre within thirty minutes.

First on our list was the British Museum because we had tickets for ....

... this Egyptian exhibition ... sadly no photos allowed. 

If truth be told, I found the exhibition a little disappointing ... very beautiful in parts but really dull. 

I teach the Egyptians every year, and the part the children love best is the making of the mummies and the weighing of the heart ceremonies. They could have done it so much better!  

However,  it was a treat to see some of the things in our textbooks in real life!

Next stop was Covent Garden

The church of St Martin-in-the-fields

and Trafalgar Square which was full of Barcelona fans ready for the match at Arsenal's ground later that evening.

We didn't hang around because it was freezing.

From Trafalgar Square Big Ben looks deceivingly close so we decided to take a wander down to Westminster.

I've always loved this statue of Boudicca near Westminster Bridge.

By now our feet were aching ... it would have been lovely to jump on an old route master bus ... but we needed to go in the opposite direction to catch the train back to our van. No nights out on the town for us .... we were shattered!

On day two our daughter came down by train from the NorthEast to meet up with us.

We visited Tate Britain to see our favourite Pre-Raphaelite paintings

But we also enjoyed some of the newer pieces like this amazing chandelier which flashed on and off

and we had fun with this curved mirror too.

 We had a quick visit to Harrods where we wanted to see the Food Hall

 The decor is completely over the top but stunning!

Yes, the sign is correct ~ this cake did cost almost two thousand pounds!

 Later, a cupcake was purchased from here ... 

 and we browsed the shops in Notting Hill.

We actually stayed up quite late on Thursday night, and after we saw our lovely girl off home we went to see a show.

We managed to get tickets to see "Ghost Stories" at the Duke of York Theatre, and found ourselves sitting in the very front row, worryingly close enough to see all the horror unfold right before our very eyes. Great fun, quite jumpy in parts and poor Mr B had a bruised hand at the end as I clung on tight!

So there we have it, a whistle stop of our tour of London ... none of the big sights or attractions but we visited places which have been on our 'to do' list for some time!
