We had a lovely Christmas Day ... just the four of us together ... both sets of elderly parents didn't want to venture out in the heavy snow.
Wonderful presents were exchanged ... I was surprised by a very pretty sparkling gift from my husband which made me cry again ... (I am still crying every time the poor man does something nice for me) ... I never used to cry like this...
Food was consumed on an enormous scale... and we declared that Christmas this year had been very special.
Little did we know that all that was to change on Boxing Day. The lovely Mr B. bent down to pick something up and pulled his back. He is in agony! He has a long standing back problem and has been having weekly sessions at the osteopath in the run up to Christmas. (I'm writing this after I've just watched him crawl across the floor, unable to stand up.) There's nothing anyone can do to help him .... except fetch and carry!!!
He is a very miserable patient!
Traditionally we visit the grandparents on Boxing Day ... lunch at the in-laws and tea at my Mum and Dad's where we meet up with my brother and his family. Dad phoned to say my Mum had been ill through the night, so that was cancelled. Poor Mum ... her role in life is to feed everyone. She seems to have caught this dreadful sickness bug that's going round. Fingers crossed she'll be better soon and we can all catch up later in the week.
So I took the children to visit my husband's parents without him and we didn't see my parents at all.
Ho! Ho! Ho! .... and it had all been going so well!

Hi there Kathy,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read this. I empathise with the back issue - there really is nothing to be done other than endure - I do hope it sorts itself out pronto. That awful sickness bug put my t'other half in hospital, it happened so quickly and violently it gave sympoms of heart attack, turned out well in the end though. I hope you all get to see your parents and all are back to full health in time for the New Year.
Wishing you lots of love, luck, happiness and of course health for 2011.

There is nothing more miserable than when your back goes out. I have a bad back and swear by these exercises I found on the internet. They are from a physical therapist called Robin McKenzie. They were the only thing that made the pain down my leg go away.
ReplyDeleteOh dear Kathy, hope Mr B and your mum feel better soon, maybe you can get together over new year?
