We had a booking to go away in the caravan this weekend, but something important cropped up at work, and we were forced to change our booking to last weekend instead.
So ..... last Saturday we were doing this ......
We took the car ferry across Lake Windermere, and walked through the woodland at the far side of the lake. As you may recall, the weather was beyond belief for September, and we were able to enjoy all the wonders of Autumn wearing summer shorts and sandals .... very strange!
This weekend the skies are grey, wet and thoroughly miserable .... so we were so lucky with the change of plan!
Today we needed to attend a service at our school's local church to finally say farewell to our lovely vicar and chair of governors, as he was celebrating his final service after 28 years.
We set off in good time, but found all roads to Liverpool were blocked for the Marathon which was starting in Wallasey, passing through the Mersey Tunnel, and finishing up on the Mersey waterfront. After a series of detours we managed to get there with seconds to spare. Aaaargh!!! It would not have looked good if the Head and his wife had arrived late in front of half the school and parents!
It was a wonderful service, and very sad, as Father Myles has been a good friend to so many people, not least my husband, who has found his experience invaluable in times of stress in school. Many a pompous Ofsted Inspector has been deflated by a few words from Myles!!! We will miss him so much.
However, he is not retiring, but moving on to take up the position of acting Dean at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral ... a role he thoroughly deserves!
I have to confess that I wasn't totally concentrating on the service the whole time, because I was distracted by this handsome fellow in the pew in front of us. He is training to be a Guide Dog, and is boarding with one of my colleagues. He goes to doggy training school on Monday to Friday, and has the evenings and weekends with Sue. She has to give him back in a few weeks time, as he's ready to move on to his next stage of training. She's broken hearted already!!!

That turned out to be a lucky swap
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky swap for your weekends - this one was much different to last.
ReplyDeleteCute guide dog too - someone is going to be very lucky to have him soon :)
What a fabulous weekend to be away in the Lake District. I just love the area around Lake Windemere. Such a cute little puppy. I would be absolutely broken-hearted too! Have a good week. This half-term seems to be flying along! Ros
