This is the post I scheduled to go out last night:
I'm taking a break from blogging as we're off to France for a few weeks
See you all in September!
This is what actually happened:
Thank goodness for road side assistance .... we were eventually rescued and taken home ...
the car ...
the caravan ....
and the three of us ... plus dog
Inca was as good as gold while it was all going on around her, but it was a bit traumatic lifting her into the high cab of the rescue vehicle.
So .... last night instead of enjoying a glass of wine on a campsite near Calais, we were back home.
The car is in our local garage and will be having major surgery on Monday ... it all sounds very expensive.
We are so disappointed, but looking for positives .... at least we were still close to home, it didn't happen in France, and no-one is hurt. We're all safe and well, and we'll try again next week when the car is fixed!

Oh no what bad timing! At least, as you say, it didn't happen in France... hope it's not as expensive as it sounds.
ReplyDeleteOh Kathy, I really feel for you all. I know exactly how you feel as the self same thing happened to us a few years ago. Don't give up though. You will get there, we did! Just have that bottle of wine anyway and act like you are on holiday.
ReplyDeleteWhat rotten luck. You so needed this holiday. At least having school holidays you have some flexibilty and it wasn't just your two weeks annual leave. You'll appreciate France even more when you eventually make it.I just hope it isn't too expensive but at least as you say noone is hurt or ill.Good luck.
ReplyDeleteOh dear , fingers crossed for next week x
ReplyDeleteOh no! What a shame! Like you said though, at least it happened here! My car does this frequently throughout the summer months (and cuts out in the winter) but I just sit and wait for it to cool down and try again lol!
ReplyDeleteHope it gets fixed and you get your holiday in France! x
So glad you're safe and sound and no one was hurt and hoping for a hidden blessing this week while your Holiday is on delay.
ReplyDeleteOh so sorry to hear this, what a disappointment. Hope the car doesn't cost you too much and that you still get a chance to get away sometime.
ReplyDeleteOh what a disappointment! But at least you were near enough to sleep in your own bed and in comfort rather than is a strange place. Hope your next attempt ends happily!
ReplyDeleteHow sad for you but it is a good thing it happened close to home.
ReplyDeleteWell, when something as drastic as that happens and causes one to go home, I can't help but think that there was a higher power at work and you weren't meant to leave right then! Who knows what you're being saved from! You might never know, but I strongly believe there is a reason for everything. And, you are so right to look at it as you did...thank goodness you were still close to home! What a trooper your sweet puppy is! Enjoy your newly found hours at home! Annette
ReplyDeleteOh, no you were so looking forward to your holiday. Thank goodness you were all ok and that you got home safely. Hope all goes well and that you get to France soon:)
ReplyDeleteOK. Now you've got something to look forward to!!! You'll just have to buy cheaper wine if the car bill is expensive... Ax
ReplyDeleteOh no! Hope you manage to treat the enforced period of time at home as holiday still - don't get sucked back into doing the normal stuff, make sure you enjoy yourselves!
ReplyDeleteThat is so disappointing. I hope your car is fixed soon so you can go off to enjoy a well deserved break.
ReplyDeleteAnne xx
Oh what a shame, but at least you won't miss your holiday altogether if you can go next week instead.
ReplyDeletesuch a shame, I hope you get there soon xxx
ReplyDeleteoh no...i thought things like that only happened to us....but how you'll laugh when you do get to la belle france and are sipping that wine enjoying a view. enjoy
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so u fair! I hope things will be better soon
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Helen
Oh no! Hope it's not quite as costly as you thought. You've a bit longer to ebjoy looking forward to going!!!! :-) Ros
ReplyDeleteYou'll enjoy it all the more when you get there!!! x
ReplyDeleteThat sucks. Hope it doesn't take too long to get the car fixed and its not too expensive.
ReplyDeleteWhat a major shock, disappointment and disruption for you as you set out on your holiday! Let's hope the vehicle is fixed up quickly and not too expensively so you can continue with your vacation plan. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteOh how disappointing! :( Hope it all gets sorted out swiftly and inexpensively... well done for finding the positives! xxx
ReplyDeleteOh no! Not the relaxing start to a holiday you must have hoped for! Fingers crossed you're on your way now - bon voyage! x
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating for you all! Not at all as you had planned. Good luck with the re-start of the trip - have a great time! cheers Wendy
ReplyDeleteOh poor you! I do hope the car gets sorted out quickly and inexpensively. Treat yourself in the meantime, and look forward to your croissants. Happy holidays.
ReplyDeleteOh Kathy, what a huge pain! Really sorry to hear your plans have been put on hold. Like you say, everyone is ok so that's good!
ReplyDeleteHope the repairs aren't too hideous.
