11/11/11

We have been selling poppies in school for weeks now, but they keep disintegrating, so all our classes have made a poppy from red card to wear at our special assembly tomorrow.

We are determined our children will know why we wear our poppies with pride.

  1. I'm glad that your school is doing this - the children need to know about the sacrifices that were made and are still being made by the men and women of the armed forces and what the significance of the red Flanders poppy is.

  2. I think it is really important for children to understand what it is all about, and it is so lovely to see this being carried out throughout the country :) x x x x

  3. Lovely, Reception class were making their own poppies this week and the other children were all wearing purchased ones as we also sell them in our School. They had a 1 minute silence this morning at 11am.

  4. What a great idea, I wonder if our art teachers did any project like that. I had my 3rd grades type a song and print it on flag paper. The song called History is sung to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." It's very sweet.

  5. My class did an assembly all about Remembrance this week and it was really moving. I think the parents were stunned that their children could express their feelings about war so eloquently.

  7. We had a special assembly and some of the youngest children were able to talk about the meaning behind the poppy. I agree, it is so important that are aware and have some understanding. Hope you have a good week. Ros
