Well, most of us were back in school, but we have three members of staff stranded by the "dust" - one in Venice, one in Murcia in Spain and one in the Caribbean!!!!
I've had a lovely time over the past two weeks - mainly because the weather has been glorious - and I feel as though I've been away for ages....
We had a lovely break in the Lakes ... the weather was better than it often is in summer!
I did some shopping, had my hair done, spent time with friends and family - all at a leisurely pace -
not crammed into a short weekend.
I did lots of baking, and pottering around the house and garden - just enjoying being at home.
Nothing exciting - just everyday, ordinary things that I don't usually get time to do.
As I'm getting older I'm beginning to long for the day when I don't have to go back to work after a holiday -
and we'll have all the time in the world to enjoy pottering about the house.
Retirement - or rather early retirement - is a constant topic of conversation at the moment!
Unfortunately, there's a few years to go yet!
Meanwhile, I need to stop moaning and make the most of each day as it comes!
P.S. in two weeks it will be May Day! Hooray!

Ha ha ha! I could have written this post myself, exactly as it is! I feel just the same way and we talk about early retirement too! I just love the slower pace of holidays and loathe more and more the stress of all the management responsibilities and paperwork madness. Thanks! You captured it all in a nutshell :) Ros
ReplyDeletePottering is good for you. Keep practising and you'll have it just right for when you do come to retire!

I love a bit of pottering - beats going to work, anyway!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've had a lovely pottering holiday. My husband took early retirement from teaching last year and just does an IT job Sept-Jan so at this time of year we have lots of free time - I can thoroughly recommend it. I've really enjoyed looking at all your Lakeland photos:)
ReplyDeleteLovely to read about your holiday in the Lakes.
ReplyDeleteYou may well have seen Lakeland cam, but if not here is the link. Once you start you just have to look everyday at his beautiful pictures. Really enjoy your blog too.

Early retirement is brilliant.I love it and just don't know how I found time to teach full time. You don't get that Sunday evening feeling and the relief that there are no reports to write etc.is wonderful.I loved teaching and missed it dreadfully when I first finished(due to ill health)but now I just enjoy life and there is time to follow interests, meet friends, travel, read, craft etc.Every day is different and mainly stressfree.
ReplyDeleteOoh sounds like you have had a great holiday xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful vacation! You always make your adventures sound so pleasant. Your pictures are beautiful, and I especially like the rooster on your table by your pink roses -- he is too cute!
ReplyDeleteWe have this conversation the whole time too, and its still a few years off for us too. Hubby can retire from his job at the end of the year, but will need another job - and as he has done the same job for 30 years in a fairly secure job, he's very apprehensive. Glad you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteEerly retirement!... I dream with that. But not for the moment. Even early is too far away. But it will come.

Early retirement is often a topic of conversation in our house too! I have a week off coming up soon. Can't wait. It is a bind when it comes to going back to work. To make up for this it's good to do ordinary things, and to treat yourself to lovely flowers like those. x
