After a nightmare journey home from work last night of almost five hours, we're having a 'snow day' today. School is shut until Monday! Hooray!Seriously, the roads are treacherous. Nothing has been gritted and we encountered scenes last night like those Hollywood blockbuster movies about the end of the world .... you know how it goes.... people desperately trying to flee a big city ....trapped in their cars .... total gridlock .... and then hundreds of people walking .... fleeing the nightmare...... and the totally surreal experience of finally making it to the Paradise Peninsula and finding it eerily empty! We managed to reach home at 8.30 p.m.
Our stupid labrador declined to walk with us, because she had discovered something far more interesting than a mere walk in snow .... a dead bird, lying in the lane behind our house. Delighted, she ran off to play with it, and no amount of calling, or promises of tasty treats could tempt her away from her new treasure. She kept running further and further away from us into the empty fields. We could hardly blame her, because her favourite Christmas toy was a stuffed bird, and here we were trying to take the real thing away from her. In the end, we returned to the house without her, hoping that she would follow us home when she eventually got tired.
Luckily, the plan worked because when Mr B. went to check on her about half an hour later, she just trotted back with him, obviously worn out by all the excitement. Meanwhile, the lane is filled with grey feathers .... ugh!
...and this is how Inca spent the rest of the day ..... exhausted by her naughtiness!
Christmas goes back in the box
On twelfth night Christmas is finally over and the decorations must come down. I hate the way the house looks .... strangely bare. I like the idea of having our home decorated for the seasons, so I'm going to make an extra effort to decorate for Easter this year! Do you know that Tesco is already selling Hot Cross Buns and Creme Eggs? Crazy!!!!
I'm sooooo jealous - no work until Monday!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the photos of Liverpool in the snow from, they are lovely!
...and I can't believe my incababes, she's outrageous!

ReplyDeleteHello :) Love your photos. Thank you for linking to my blog.
The snow days were truly amazing weren't they! But I never want to have that journey again ... like you it took me 4 hours to get home from Bebington to Upton! But the walks the next few days were fabulous :)
