Anyway, the sat-nav was plugged in at the weekend, and we set off for Glossop to buy a new awning for our caravan. Mr. B. was driving. All was well until we got close to Stockport, and the lovely lady who was talking to us told us ever so politely to stay on the motorway. Mr. B. didn't agree with this because he said he knew the way anyway,
he chose to ignore her and went off the motorway....
and then ..... it turns out
he didn't know where he was at all!
Much hilarity ensued!
We ended up following the calm voice until she took us right back to the motorway just like she'd said in the first place, with Mr B. still protesting that this wasn't the way we should be going.
Why do men think they know everything?
A sat-nav will only work if you're prepared to do as you're told!
Mr B. can't follow instructions, can't be told anything, and hates going the boring way! I could have predicted exactly what would happen!
In the end, we got to Glossop, bought the awning, and then we did follow the sat-nav's instructions to get us to Lyme Hall not too far away.....
... where we spent a very pleasant afternoon.
As usual, photography was not allowed inside the building so I can't show you how beautiful this house was, with it's Tudor panelling and fireplaces, and stained glass windows.
But I can tell you that Lyme Hall was used as the location for all the outside scenes from the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice.... you know ..... that one with Colin Firth as Mr Darcy!
Would like a little reminder?
There now, wasn't the house magnificent?

Ha! I think we are all married to the same man. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the little reminder. Best. Movie. Scene. Ever.
My friend from Seattle used one of the navigation units on our trip to Victoria, Canada. It was very interesting to see it work. Love your photos.
ReplyDeleteWe have a sat nav and have had it for ages but C like Mr B never believes it!He insists i am a better map reader than any sat nav but that means I can't have a little nap.I see you are using your NT membership.Any decisions on your summer holiday? We are off to Madrid tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI frequently ignore the Satnav directions in favourof my own preferred route. I am sure the satnav lady gets more exasperated with me as she is "recalculating" the route. And i half expect her to tell me I'm on my own but she hasn't yet.
ReplyDeleteActually K swears by his sat nav. I swear AT it. I hate the woman with her condescending voice and her insistence that the motorway is always best. It SO isn't Lady! ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes i know the P&P with 'that' man too!x
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteHow delish does that man look?!!!
Glad you finally reached your destination and the awning was purchased.

Glad you got around safely, but give me a map any day! Thank you for the lovely reminder of Lyme Hall and Mr Darcy- an excellent specimen of a ..House:)
ReplyDeleteI just need to recover from swooning from that video!
ReplyDeleteSat Nav's are a funny thing. I recently had to drive to Birmingham and had consulted the map and planned my route, but I took the sat nav with me just in case. When on the return trip I must have been between two possible routes as she was trying to take me back a different way. I got to the first jct and she said turn right...well I knew I'd come from the left so I ignored her. Got to the next jct and she still wanted me to go right...I ignored her! I got home just fine, I guess I'm not very good at following instructions either...LOL
