With my daughter feeling a bit low in her new job, London was calling last weekend.
First stop was the wonderful V & A museum, and the obligatory coffee and cakes.
Glittery lights in the tea room.
The building itself is a delight with all its Victorian flamboyance.
We were very taken with this little fellow.
Time for tea! This clock had a whole tea service tucked away in the drawer at the bottom.
The jewellery gallery was just breathtaking, but photographs weren't allowed so the next few pics are from Mr Google.
My lovely girl was very taken with the crowns, and quite fancies one herself. Well, she can dream!
On our way back to the tube we lingered for a little while outside the Natural History museum where there was a beautiful carousel, and an ice rink.
How cute are these little guys? They're for children to hold on to while they're sliding around.
Later we went to Liberty. Here's a few pics of what took our fancy.
All too soon it was time for me to head home,
passing the iconic BBC building, and a very pretty church.
Despite a very enjoyable day, I can honestly say London is not for me either.
It's just too crowded and busy, and downright exhausting.
There's lots of lovely things to see though, and I'm going to make the most of my daughter's stay there by popping down a few more times to see her.
Thanks for all the encouraging comments on the last post. The good news is, that, my lovely girl does seem to be settling in slowly, and sounds much happier on the phone this week!
It will just take a bit of time!

It's hard when your kids are struggling away from home...I feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a lovely mummy Kathy! SO glad you had a great time and hopefully cheered her up! I LOVE that jewellery room.... awe inspiring!

what a lovely day out you had - now I reckon I would have a go at skating if I could borrow one of those penguins!
ReplyDeleteIm sure your visit cheered your daughter up no end.

I'm glad to hear that your daughter is settling down now, she will have been glad of your visit though. Your post makes me want to visit London again, I've never been to the Natural History Museum though I've visited the V&A and the British Museum many times. I love that carousel, it reminds me of the ones I used to ride on as a little girl. Liberty too, I haven't been in there for years. Yes, I'll have to plan another weekend in London I think!
ReplyDeleteYou made the most of your day out. I'm off to the Nat His Museum next month, helping on a school trip. I like visiting and it's handy having my sister in law living there, it's good to come away again!

How long will she be there? As long as she has you for support i think everything will be ok :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the V&A but it really is a shame that you have to go to London to see it! ;)
ReplyDeleteEverything nice, but oh! The Trays!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I think London is a great place to visit but I would not want to live in such a large city. Love the photos.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased your daughter is settling in.London is a big and lonely place. We are hoping to go to see the David Hockney exhibition.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a totally different way of life in London and that will take some getting used to. There's also lots of opportunities, places to go and things to see, so I'm sure she'll take advantage of those while she's there.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your pictures so much. And yes, I think you should take advantage of your daughter being in London and visit her often. It will be good for both of you :) Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteFab emergency trip!!! I'm glad she is feeling a lot better. xxxx
ReplyDeleteI lived in London for 2 years in my late teens and loved it but I agree with you, today I think I'd hate it. As you say it's just too busy, there's so much traffic and so many people everywhere. I did enjoy looking at your photos though and through them I revisited places I haven't seen in years.
