Christmas is in the Air!

We decided to have a weekend away before Christmas and stayed at the Clubsite in Chatsworth's walled garden. The weather had been wet for weeks, but luckily Saturday was dry and we managed to have a lovely day.

We went to see the 'Candlelit Christmas' at Chatsworth, where two floors were richly decorated with candles and Christmas trees.

The theme was the Tales of Hans Christian Andersen. This blue one in the Grotto represented the story of the Little Mermaid.

Dinner is served!
This is the richly decorated dining room. The chandelier above the table was enormous.

The library was just beautiful, with a series of Christmas trees. However you couldn't help noticing a musty smell. I suppose it was all those ancient books.
After all the richly decorated rooms it was almost welcome to come out into the Sculpture gallery, where we both fell in love with a pair of marble lions. They were just fabulous!

Shades of Aslan!

This guy was impressive but our favourite was the next one. You could see the individual hairs on his fur. Just stunning!
Later in the shop, we found a pair of lions on sale for £75. We were tempted, but they would have been incredibly heavy to carry around, so we bought some crackers instead!
We had planned to have a lovely lunch at the house, but the queues were unbelievable, so we had mulled wine and mince pies in the courtyard, and then headed off to Bakewell full of Christmas spirit!
We had lunch in a pretty little cafe called Lavender Tea Rooms and admired the nearby windows all ready for Christmas.
Yes, Christmas is definitely in the air!
